“I never realized that traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is so close to our lives. TCM is truly amazing! When I grow up, I want to be like these volunteer brothers and sisters and learn about TCM!” Recently, at a “TCM Culture in School” event organized by the Qihuang Musculoskeletal Propaganda Team from Guizhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine's College of Traumatology, Xia Chenxuan, a student from Grade 6 Class 1 of the Gui'an Affiliated Primary School of Guizhou Normal University, said this while holding a TCM-themed sachet he had made.
It is understood that since the beginning of this year, the Qihuang Musculoskeletal Propaganda Team, part of the national college students' TCM propaganda group, has leveraged its expertise in TCM traumatology and orthopedics. They have visited institutions such as Guizhou Normal University, Huaxi District Tsinghua Middle School, Gui'an Affiliated Primary School of Guizhou Normal University, Dangwu Ethnic Minority Primary School, and Tongmuling Happy Community. Using activities such as making TCM sachets and experiencing the four diagnostic methods, they have conducted 14 TCM propaganda events, attracting thousands of people to TCM culture.
For primary and secondary school students learning about TCM, it starts with discovering TCM around them and making a TCM sachet. This initiates a wonderful journey into understanding and learning about the “world of TCM.” At various primary and secondary schools, the Qihuang Musculoskeletal Propaganda Team, using the theme “TCM Everywhere,” guides students to make sachets for epidemic prevention using raw materials such as sweet wormwood, herb of patrinia, clove, and mugwort leaf. They also popularize knowledge about scoliosis prevention and treatment and local TCM herbs in Guizhou, planting the seeds of TCM culture in young hearts.
At Guizhou Normal University, volunteers broke away from traditional propaganda methods, setting up a “TCM Culture Corridor” booth. They introduced TCM health preservation methods to college students through a “Crispy University Student Self-help Guide” that resonated with contemporary trends, providing professional TCM answers based on the students' own health conditions. They set up booths for TCM-themed games, organizing fun activities like “Herbal Medicine Stroll in Three Gardens” and “Herbal Medicine Squat,” offering a refreshing experience of TCM culture that was very well-received.
“Every propaganda event is an opportunity for self-improvement. In volunteer services, helping others with what we've learned gives us a sense of recognition and satisfaction, and clarifies the mission and responsibility of TCM youth.” Li Suli, the captain of the Qihuang Musculoskeletal Volunteer Team, stated that they will work even harder in the future to spread TCM culture and contribute youthful energy to the construction of Healthy China and Healthy Guizhou.
The Qihuang Musculoskeletal Propaganda Team is one of 1,000 TCM volunteer teams selected by the Communist Youth League Central Committee from 406 universities across the country, including Peking University and Beijing University of Chinese Medicine. In 2024, 13 volunteer service propaganda teams from Guizhou Province were selected.
