As a “music island,” the Tan Dun Sound & Medicine Week brought an unparalleled cultural feast to the city. And Qingdao, with its unique charm, became the stage for the fusion and coexistence of traditional Chinese medicine and music.

This Sound & Medicine Week not only gathered experimental fusion, mini operas, Dunhuang ancient music, literary music, and tributes to Mei Lanfang, but also included original works with electronic music and rock elements. It collaborated with a group of young artists to present a series of fresh and exciting musical crossover works.

The “Sea Breeze and the Future Past,” which kicked off at the free-spirited Hisense Plaza Sky Bowl, was a crossover sound gala where electronic music collided with waves. On the 25th, Tan Dun's reorchestration of Stravinsky's “The Rite of Spring” for two pianos and percussion, as well as his two mini operas “The Nine-Colored Deer” and “Xuanzang's Return to the East,” brought unparalleled dramatic tension.

On the final of performances, Tan Dun performed alongside pianist Zuo Zhang and the “old friend” Qingdao Symphony Orchestra, presenting a concert of “World Classics and Literary Masterpieces.” This provided the island's residents and music enthusiasts with a heartfelt closing performance.
