On the occasion of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage Day, on June 5th, the famous TCM study room, a collaborative effort between the Changning District Library and the Tianshan TCM Hospital, was officially opened. The study room focuses on carrying forward and promoting TCM culture, combining the profound heritage of TCM with modern reading methods. It serves as a unique reading space that integrates TCM literature collection, intangible cultural heritage (ICH) displays, health education, and TCM cultural exchanges.
This morning, the unveiling ceremony for the famous TCM study room took place at the Tianshan TCM Hospital. The Tianshan TCM Hospital and the Changning District Library signed a cooperation agreement. In the future, both parties will continue to conduct in-depth cooperation in TCM literature resource development and research utilization.
The famous TCM study room is located within the Tianshan TCM Hospital, consisting of three areas: the famous scholars' study display area, the ICH discussion area, and the ICH experience area. The study room houses a rich collection of books covering various fields of TCM, including basic theories, pharmacology, acupuncture, and massage. It features a collection of monographs, famous prescriptions, manuscripts, and reference books by renowned TCM experts from Shanghai, Changning District, and members of the Tianshan TCM Hospital's studio. “Experts from the hospital provided us with a list of recommended books. We extended this list and compiled a detailed inventory, then gathered around 300 books through institutions like the Shanghai Library,” said Pu Lili, deputy director of the Changning District Library.
The design of the study room is also innovative, blending traditional TCM elements with the “Ma's Facial Paralysis Therapy” ICH elements. It showcases TCM instruments, traditional medical and pharmaceutical techniques, and acupuncture and massage skills.
A noteworthy feature is a special TCM consultation box from the renowned surgical family “Master of Wound Healing” Gu Xiaoyan. The upper part of the leather box contains various external ointments, pills, and powders used in TCM surgery, while the lower part holds surgical instruments. This allows visitors to gain a more direct understanding of some traditional TCM practices. Wu Bin, deputy director of the Tianshan TCM Hospital, mentioned, “We aim to establish this place as an incubator for ICH, promoting and inheriting these techniques so that more people can benefit. For example, Professor Gu Naiqiang from our hospital is the fourth-generation inheritor of the national ICH ‘Gu's Surgery.' This represents our advantage in developing, inheriting, and introducing ICH.” The famous TCM study room aims to promote TCM culture, combining its profound heritage with modern reading methods. Through lectures, training, practical education, and academic exchanges, it provides a one-stop knowledge learning and exchange platform for medical professionals and TCM students, contributing to the in-depth development of TCM in Changning.
It is planned that the famous TCM study room will host TCM cultural experience activities periodically, such as cupping, ear acupoint therapy, and acupoint patch applications, allowing citizens to immerse themselves in the charm of TCM culture. “In the past, when we visited the TCM hospital, we only knew about herbal medicines or acupuncture and cupping. Now, with the famous TCM study room, we can learn more about TCM knowledge and experience the depth and richness of TCM culture more directly,” said Ms. Qin, a local resident.
Leaders Pan Guoli and Gu Jieyan from the district attended the unveiling ceremony.
