Basic Introduction to Shuicheng Kiwifruit
Shuicheng kiwifruit is produced in Shuicheng County, Guizhou Province. The total planned area of the Shuicheng Kiwifruit Industry Park is 65,760 mu (approx. 4384 hectares). Shuicheng kiwifruit belongs to the Chinese variety, with large fruit size, neat and beautiful shape, green skin, jade-green flesh when ripe, a red center when cut horizontally, and radiating blood-red stripes evenly distributed around the center, resembling a radiant rising sun, making it extremely beautiful.
Morphological Characteristics
The fruit ripens from August 15th to September 10th. Each fruit weighs 82.7g, with soluble solids ranging from 19.6% to 25.6%, total sugar at 13.54%, total acid at 0.49%, and 135.77mg of vitamin C per 100g of fruit pulp. It has a slightly sour yet intensely sweet taste, a rich fragrance, a long-lasting aftertaste, excellent texture, and high quality. Shuicheng red-fleshed kiwifruit has strong firmness and only begins to soften after reaching eight-tenths ripeness. Its post-ripening period is relatively long, giving it good storage and transportation capabilities. It can be stored for 10 to 30 days at room temperature and 5 to 6 months under conditions of 0-4°C. It yields early and abundantly; grafted seedlings begin to produce flowers and fruits 1-2 years after planting, and enter full production in 3-4 years, yielding 15-20kg per plant. 111 plants are planted per 666㎡ (1 mu), with a ratio of female to male plants of (20-25).
Development and Planning
In 2013, the performance evaluation results for 113 provincial modern and efficient agricultural demonstration zones in Guizhou Province were finalized, and the Shuicheng County Kiwifruit Industry Demonstration Zone in Liupanshui City, Guizhou Province, ranked first in the province overall and was designated as a key provincial agricultural demonstration zone. This achievement followed the award of the first prize in the public competition for provincial key modern and efficient agricultural demonstration zone funding in April 2013.
The “Qianhong” brand red-fleshed kiwifruit from the Shuicheng Kiwifruit Industry Park was designated as the official fruit for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and the official organic fruit for the 2010 Shanghai World Expo. The base was certified as a pollution-free agricultural product production base by the provincial agriculture commission in 2010 and received national geographical indication rights for agricultural products in 2012.
Located in the Yusha economic belt that Shuicheng County focuses on developing, the park consists of the Mieluo core area and the Houchang characteristic demonstration area, adopting a “one park, two areas” layout. It is divided into five functional zones: the kiwifruit industry core area, the kiwifruit industry demonstration area, the kiwifruit industry-research-education base, the kiwifruit industry deep processing area, and the Buyi ethnic style ecological garden. The total planned area is 65,760 mu (approx. 4384 hectares). By 2015, the production of red-fleshed kiwifruit in Shuicheng County is expected to reach 5,000 tons, laying a solid foundation for the kiwifruit industry and forming a regional brand competitive advantage.
The Shuicheng County Kiwifruit Industry Demonstration Park, guided by planning, highlights the advantages of industrial development in the park. In line with the requirements of the Shuicheng County Party Committee and government to build a first-class agricultural park in the province and well-known nationwide, the park always adheres to high standards in planning, design, and construction. With the goal of “building one park, developing one industry, enriching the people,” the park's planning and construction has established a positioning of “three combinations and six elements.” It combines with dominant advantageous industries, local culture, “Four-in-Farm Beautiful Country” and rural tourism, and small town construction, ensuring there is an industry, scale, market, brand, enterprise, and profitability.
Mieluo Township, where the core area of the kiwifruit industry demonstration park is located and which serves as a pilot for rural property rights reform, has formed four “park service teams” from selected personnel from county-level agricultural departments to assist the township in providing land transfer services. More than 50 agronomists with intermediate or higher titles have fully utilized their professional strengths to integrate into, support, and serve the construction of the agricultural park.
