Historical Folklore
The cultivation of jujube trees in Yongjing has a history dating back more than 2,000 years. Jujube trees can start bearing fruit 2-3 years after planting offshoot seedlings, and they easily grow from division, grafting, or root cuttings. In the jujube orchards of Liujiaxia and Yanguoxia, healthy jujube trees aged around 200-300 years can be seen everywhere. In recent years, “Western Leisure Water Town – Yellow River Gorges” has become a top choice for weekend short trips by residents of Lanzhou, neighboring provinces, and cities within Gansu. To further promote the new image of Western China's leisure water town tourism, the Yongjing County Tourism Bureau launched a major theme activity in 2014 centered on “Experience the Yellow River Gorges, Feel the Western Water Town.” The activity includes “Stay in a farm house, Eat farm food, Pick large jujubes, Enjoy farm tours,” allowing city dwellers to truly experience the poetic “After long being caged, returning to nature” depicted by the great poet Tao Yuanming.
