Basic Introduction to Linyi Lanshan Peanuts
Linyi Lanshan Peanuts are a specialty product originating from Linyi City, Linshu County, Shandong Province. The Linshu peanuts are of high quality. Linshu County has a long history of peanut cultivation, being one of the earliest regions in China where wild peanuts were domesticated, with a history spanning over 2,000 years.
Linshu County is one of the primary growing areas for peanuts in southern Shandong, with an annual planting area exceeding 1.2 million mu (approx. 80,000 hectares), making it the largest peanut-producing county in southern Shandong. Linshu peanuts are not only a premium agricultural product but also a crucial pillar supporting the modernization of agriculture and economic development in Linshu County.
The Linshu peanuts produce concentrated pods that are neatly arranged, with an average of 18-36 pods per plant, and a double-seeded pod rate of over 90%. There is no abnormal external moisture present. The pods and seeds have the basic characteristics of this variety, without any moldy or other off-flavors. The peanut oil has a rich and pure aroma. The Linshu peanuts have a fragrant and crisp texture, a slightly sweet taste, and a good mouthfeel.
Product Characteristics
1. Quality Characteristics:
The Linshu peanuts have clearly defined net-like patterns on their pods, large and uniform pods, with a weight of around 235 grams for a hundred pods, and the average length of double-seeded pods between 28-40 millimeters. The seeds are large and full, with red or pinkish-red seed coats and bright colors. The kernel extraction rate is between 71-75%.
2. Nutritional Value:
Testing shows that they contain 22-26% protein, 45-55% fat, 40-45% oleic acid, and 32-36% linoleic acid. Per 100 grams of peanut kernels, there is 65-75 mg of calcium and 430-470 mg of phosphorus.
Historical Folklore
The history of peanut cultivation in Linshu County dates back over 2,000 years. It is one of the earliest regions in China where wild peanuts were domesticated. The earliest written record of peanuts can be found in “The Annals of the Linyi Region,” which states: “In history, small-seeded varieties of peanuts were traditionally grown.”
During the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty (1871–1908), large-seeded peanuts were introduced into Linshu County. Varieties such as Dapuyang, Dazhanyang, and Tiebaizi were cultivated before and after the founding of the People's Republic of China.
In 2019, Linshu County was recognized by the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs as a regional base for the breeding of high-quality peanut varieties in Shandong Province.
Awards and Honors
On December 20, 2011, the former Ministry of Agriculture of the People's Republic of China approved the registration and protection of geographical indication for “Linyi Lanshan Peanuts” as an agricultural product.
