Basic Introduction to Fuping Jujubes
Jujubes originated in China and have been cultivated for over eight thousand years, traditionally being listed as one of the “five fruits” (chestnut, peach, plum, apricot, jujube).
Fuping Jujubes have been recognized as a famous, special, rare, and superior product in China and are included in the “Compendium of Special, Rare, and Superior New Products in China for the 1990s.” Deep-processed products from Fuping Jujubes include dried jujubes, jujube beverages, jujube wine, jujube vinegar, jujube tea, and more, totaling over 30 varieties. The annual gross production value exceeds 87 million yuan.
Nutritional Value
Dried jujubes contain a high sugar content of 60-70%, along with proteins, fats, and minerals such as phosphorus, iron, and calcium. Jujubes are rich in vitamins A, B, C, and P, with 100 grams of fresh jujubes containing 400-600 milligrams of vitamin C, making them the fruit with the highest vitamin C content. Jujubes are also an important medicinal herb and tonic, possessing functions such as moisturizing the lungs, nourishing blood, calming the nerves, tonifying the liver, and aiding digestion.
Product Characteristics
They are characterized by their large size (with an average single fruit weight of 8-10 grams), thin skin, thick flesh, small seeds (with a seed-to-flesh ratio of 1:18), high edibility (98%), and high sugar content in dried form (around 67%).
Historical Folklore
Currently, there are 18 million jujube trees in Fuping County, of which 10 million are fruit-bearing, distributed across 136 administrative villages in eight eastern towns of the county. The annual output of fresh jujubes is around 70,000 tons. According to “Strategies of the Warring States,” jujube cultivation in Fuping County has a history dating back over 3,500 years.
