Basic Introduction to Fumin Yangmei
Fumin Yangmei, a specialty fruit of Fumin County in Yunnan Province, is a Chinese Geographical Indication Product (Agricultural Product Geographical Indication). Located in central Yunnan, Fumin County has a subtropical highland monsoon climate at a low latitude and an excellent ecological environment, making it very suitable for fruit cultivation. Not only does Fumin Yangmei ripen about 30 days earlier than its origin in Zhejiang Province, but it also boasts an attractive shape, bright color, and a sweet-sour taste that is pleasant to the palate. The large tree Yangmei from Fumin has been certified as pollution-free by the Ministry of Agriculture and as a green product by the Green Food Center of the Ministry of Agriculture. Fumin County has been honored with the title “China's Yangmei Hometown.”
Nutritional Value
Yangmei has the effects of quenching thirst, strengthening the spleen and stomach, and improving digestion. Eating more of it does not harm the digestive system but instead has detoxifying and cold-dispelling properties. According to “Compendium of Materia Medica,” “Yangmei can quench thirst, harmonize the five organs, cleanse the stomach and intestines, and eliminate foul odors.” All parts of the Yangmei, including the fruit, seed, root, and bark, can be used medicinally. The seeds can treat gout, the roots can stop bleeding and regulate qi, and the bark soaked in alcohol can treat bruises, swelling, and pain. Yangmei soaked in liquor provides a refreshing sensation during the hot summer months, helping to relieve heat and greasy feelings. When suffering from diarrhea, drinking a concentrated decoction made from Yangmei can help stop it due to its astringent effect. Yangmei has various medicinal functions, such as aiding digestion, removing dampness, relieving summer heat, producing saliva and stopping coughs, assisting digestion, dispelling cold, stopping diarrhea, promoting urination, and preventing cholera. It is often referred to as the “gemstone among fruits.”
