Basic Introduction to Dazeshan Grapes

Dazeshan Grapes are produced in Dazeshan , Pingdu , Shandong Province, and are one of the well-known specialties of Shandong Province with a cultivation history spanning over a hundred years. The Dazeshan Grapes have a unique flavor, excellent quality, large clusters, full berries, bright colors, thin skins, tender flesh, and a pleasant taste. There are more than a varieties widely cultivated, with Muscat being the most extensively planted. In 2008, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine approved geographical indication product protection for Dazeshan Grapes.

Analysis shows that they contain 0.5-1% organic acids, with a pH value around 3.1, 0.5-0.9% , 0.3-0.5% minerals, as well as various vitamins and ascorbic acid and amino acids. Regular consumption has the effects of softening blood vessels, moisturizing skin, aiding weight loss, and preventing cancer. There is a saying: “They look beautiful to the eye, do not drip when cut with a knife, taste sweeter than honey, and leave a fresh and fragrant aftertaste in the mouth.”

Product Characteristics

The grapes produced in Dazeshan have several distinctive features:

Firstly, they have large clusters and full berries with bright colors, which make them visually appealing and highly favored;

Secondly, they are refreshingly tasty, dense yet crisp, with a balanced mix of sweetness and acidity, and a rich, pure flavor. The flesh is soluble, releasing abundant juice upon , providing a comfortable and pleasant taste, while also being very dense. Even low-sugar varieties like Longyan can be sliced with a knife without the juice spilling out, earning them the reputation of “cuttable”;

Thirdly, they have high sugar content, with analysis showing a sugar content of 17-23.5%, reaching up to 33% at its highest, providing 700-900 calories per kilogram to the human body. They are not only suitable for fresh consumption but also excellent for winemaking;

Fourthly, they have medicinal value for curing ailments, strengthening the body, replenishing energy, and prolonging life.

Awards and Honors

The fresh-eating varieties of Muscat and Zexiang from Dazeshan Grapes won gold medals at the Second National Agricultural Exposition held in 1995.

In 1999, at the World Horticulture Exposition held in Kunming, 11 varieties of Dazeshan Grapes were awarded the title of Gold Medal Products.

The Yisilin and Chardonnay wines produced by Qingdao Huadong Winery using Dazeshan Grapes won gold medals at the World Wine Grand Prix held in Brussels, Belgium, two years in a row.

In September 2005, Dazeshan Town was designated a “National Model Demonstration Area for Agricultural Standardization” by the Ministry of of China. In 2006, Dazeshan Grapes were the only ones to win the first prize among the three fruit varieties recommended by Qingdao City at the Olympic Recommended Fruit and Chinese Famous Fruit Exhibition and Evaluation Meeting, and were named “Chinese Famous Fruit”.

In July 2008, Dazeshan Grapes passed the certification for “Geographical Indication Protection Product”.

In September 2009, Dazeshan Town was named “China's No.1 Town for Fresh-Eating Grapes” by the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
