Basic Introduction to Meizhou Golden Pomelo
The cultivation of Meizhou Golden Pomelo has a history of nearly one hundred years. Currently, the total area is 300,000 mu, with a production volume of over 300,000 tons. Meizhou is the largest golden pomelo commodity production base in China. In 1995, Meizhou was named “Golden Pomelo Hometown” by the Organizing Committee of the First Batch of One Hundred Chinese Specialties Towns in China.
The Shatian Pomelos introduced from Shatian Village, Rong County, Guangxi, have flourished in Meizhou for more than ten years, surpassing their origin. Nutritional Value
According to the analysis by the Guangdong Academy of Agricultural Sciences: Golden Pomelo juice contains 14% soluble solids, up to 16% in some cases, 12.68% total sugars, 0.368% organic acids, and 104.6 mg of vitamin C per 100 ml of juice, which is twice that of sweet oranges and four times that of citrus fruits. It also contains proteins, fats, vitamins B1, B2, E, P, as well as indispensable mineral nutrients such as phosphorus, calcium, magnesium, sulfur, and sodium.
Product Characteristics
The Golden Pomelo is large, with an attractive appearance, bright yellow skin, crisp and tender flesh, sweet and refreshing taste, abundant juice, and a honey-like aroma. It is rich in nutrients and has high medicinal value. Due to its excellent storage qualities, it can be stored for up to six months without losing flavor under natural ventilation conditions, hence its nickname “Natural Canned Fruit.”
Awards and Honors
In 1987, it was rated as a quality fruit by the Central Ministry of Agriculture; in 1988, it was rated as a high-quality and rare fruit in Guangdong Province; in 1990, it was rated as “green food” by the Central Ministry of Agriculture; and in 1991, it won a gold medal at the National Seventh Five-Year Torch Plan Achievements Exhibition. The main production area of Meizhou Golden Pomelo, Meixian District, was named “China's Golden Pomelo Hometown” by the Organizing Committee of the First Batch of One Hundred Chinese Specialties Towns in China in 1994; in 1997, it was awarded the title of brand-name product at the Third China Agricultural Expo. Meizhou Golden Pomelo is widely sold in countries and regions such as the United States, Canada, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Macau, and has generally received high praise.
