The Gongcheng Moon Persimmon is beautiful in shape, bright in color, large in size, thin-skinned, and thick-fleshed without seeds. Fresh persimmons are sweet and tasty; frozen persimmons are fragrant and sweet; persimmon cakes are as sweet and soft as candy, shaped like a full moon, the flesh is red and translucent, the texture is soft, and the taste is sweet and fragrant. Testing shows that persimmon cakes contain 55.8% sugar, 6.91 mg of Vitamin C per 100g, 35.0 international units of Vitamin A, and iron, calcium, and phosphorus contents of 601, 1359, and 432 PPM respectively. Historical Folklore
After successfully suppressing the rebellion, Sun Yat-sen returned to Guangzhou to prepare for the Northern Expeditionary War. Some well-known figures in Guangzhou learned that Mr. Sun was born on the 6th day of the 10th month of the fifth year of Tongzhi (November 12, 1866 AD) during the Qing Dynasty. Entering the early winter of 1923, they prepared gifts for his birthday celebration in Guangzhou City. They had prepared a batch of premium Moon Persimmons from Lotus, Gongcheng, and after dinner, they served a plate of three steamed and cooled golden-yellow Gongcheng Moon Persimmons for Sun Yat-sen to taste. Sun Yat-sen tasted them and praised them highly.
Awards and Honors for Gongcheng Moon Persimmon
In 2000, it won the title of “China's Famous Fruit” by the China Fruit Circulation Association. The fruit can be made into persimmon cakes, which are shaped like the moon, hence the name “Moon Persimmon”. In 1996, the Ministry of Agriculture of the People's Republic of China bestowed the honorable title of “China's Moon Persimmon Hometown” exclusively upon Gongcheng.
