Rongshui Glutinous Rice Pomelo is a specialty of Rongshui Miao Autonomous , Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

Benefiting from the unique natural environmental and climatic conditions of the Damaoshan mountains in Rongshui, the Rongshui Glutinous Rice Pomelo has distinctive local characteristics. The fruit shape is pear-like or nearly pear-shaped, with a short neck, a slightly concave center at the top, and an imprint ring, commonly known as a “ bottom.” The flesh is full of juice vesicles, honey-yellow in , translucent, and melts in the mouth, with a clear and sweet taste. The skin is thin, with a high edible ratio, tender flesh that melts in the mouth, a large amount of juice, a clear , and a strong aroma. It is rich in various vitamins and minerals, and its quality is excellent.

Historical Folklore

Rongshui Glutinous Rice Pomelo is a pomelo variety cultivated over a long period under the unique geographical and climatic conditions of Damaoshan. The cultivation history of Rongshui Glutinous Rice Pomelo is long. According to historical records in the “Rong County Annals,” there were already written records of growing Rongshui Glutinous Rice Pomelo in Rongshui County during the 19th year of the Qianlong era (1755).

The “Guangxi Famous, Special, and Superior Products Gazette” refers to Rongshui Glutinous Rice Pomelo as “a precious fruit, a natural canned food.” Rongshui County has developed the brand of Rongshui Glutinous Rice Pomelo, registered trademarks such as “Yufeng,” “Coin,” and “Bellin,” and established the first non-polluting Rongshui Glutinous Rice Pomelo export production base in Guangxi, obtaining export certification from the Guangxi Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau.

In 2003, Rongshui County formulated production technical standards for Rongshui Glutinous Rice Pomelo, promoting standardized production. It passed certification as a non-polluting agricultural product production base in Guangxi, and 900 mu of Rongshui Glutinous Rice Pomelo were in a two-year organic food conversion certification period.

In 2006, Rongshui County established a 5,000-mu Rongshui Glutinous Rice Pomelo export base. By the end of 2009, the planting area of Rongshui Glutinous Rice Pomelo in Rongshui County had reached 25,000 mu, with an annual output of nearly 40,000 tons.

By the end of 2011, the planting area of Rongshui Glutinous Rice Pomelo had reached 14,500 mu, with an annual output of 18,000 tons and a value of 54 million yuan.

Awards and Honors

Rongshui Glutinous Rice Pomelo was consecutively rated as a high-quality fruit product in Guangxi for four years, winning the Gold Cup Award at the fourth and fifth national pomelo competitions, and the award for high-quality fruit products at the Chinese Agricultural Expo.

On August 27, 202008, the original General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine approved the of geographical indication product protection for “Rongshui Glutinous Rice Pomelo.”
