Basic Introduction to Baizhushan Tea

Baizhushan tea is produced in the beautiful and mystical Chu ethnic “Tiger Dance” homeland, Shuangbai County, at an altitude of 2,300 meters, within the provincial nature reserve known as Baizhushan. The area features dense forests, intact vegetation, fertile soil, a mild climate, annual rainfall of 1,100 to 1,300 millimeters, and a soil pH value between 4.5 and 5.6, with clouds and mist shrouding the region throughout the year.

Baizhushan tea is made from high-quality raw materials of the large-leaf variety native to Yunnan, processed using unique techniques and advanced technology. It is characterized by its attractive appearance, tightly twisted leaves, elegant shape, clear green and bright broth, rich and lasting aroma, fresh and mellow , and a long-lasting aftertaste. Produced in the scenic area of Shuangbai County, Prefecture, Yunnan Province, the origin is cloaked in mist and clouds all year round, has a high altitude, high , , and sweet spring water. This tea is made from high-quality raw materials of the large-leaf tea variety native to Yunnan, using unique techniques and advanced technology. It is characterized by its attractive appearance, tightly twisted leaves, elegant shape, clear green and bright broth, rich and lasting aroma, fresh and mellow taste. It tastes good upon first sip and even better with each subsequent sip.

Geographical Scope

Baizhushan tea is produced within Famao Town, Shuangbai County, Chuxiong Prefecture, Yunnan Province. The production area encompasses 13 administrative villages: Famao, Lan Ni, Shitou, Pusi, Liujie, Shuangba, Zhekesao, Maidi, Yulong, Fadian, Gumu, Hongli, and Zheju. Geographical coordinates are: 101°44′ to 101°50′ East Longitude, 24°26′ to 24°40′ Latitude, with a north-south length of 24.75 kilometers and an east-west width of 22.5 kilometers. The total planting area is 667 hectares, with an annual output of 500 tons.

Nutritional Value

Green tea is revered in our country as the “National Drink.” Modern scientific research has confirmed that tea indeed contains biochemical components closely related to human health. In addition to its functions in refreshing the mind, clearing heat, quenching , aiding digestion, detoxifying, and more, tea also has pharmacological effects for modern diseases such as sickness, cardiovascular disease, and cancer. The main pharmacologically active components in tea include polyphenols, caffeine, polysaccharides, and theanine.

Product Characteristics

(1) Sensory Characteristics: The average height of the tea bushes is 0.8 to 1 meter, with a crown width of 1.5 to 2 meters, generally level or arc-shaped; the finished tea has tightly compacted, uniform leaves with young stems, a slightly grayish-green color; when brewed, it has a clear, high fragrance, a rich and mellow taste, a yellow-green and bright broth, and yellow-green, tender leaves at the bottom.

(2) Quality Characteristics: Polyphenol content ≥20.0%, caffeine content ≥2.5%, free amino acid content ≥3.1%, theanine content ≥1.5%.

(3) Safety Requirements: The environmental standards for the production area of Baizhushan tea comply with NY 5020-2001 “Non-Polluted Food – Environmental Conditions for Tea Production Areas”; product quality meets the standards set in NY/T 5017-2001 “Non-Polluted Food – Tea”; production process control follows NY/T 5018 -2001 “Non-Polluted Food – Tea Production Technical Regulations” and NY/T 5019-2001 “Non-Polluted Food – Tea Processing Technical Regulations.”

Awards and Honors

The unique natural conditions provide a solid foundation for producing high-quality tea. Baizhushan green tea has passed the national “green food” certification and has won gold awards in provincial and ministerial competitions for famous and high-quality teas multiple times. It enjoys the reputation of being a “hidden treasure of the mountains and a valuable product of the Tiger Dance region.” Within the national standard for Pu'er tea, the Baizhushan tea plantation has been included in the geographical indication protection area for Yunnan Pu'er tea. It was awarded the China Science and Technology Silver in 1985.
