Historical Folklore

Yingjiang County has a long history of tea cultivation and has traditionally produced famous teas. According to the Ming Dynasty's “Records of the Ming” (《Ming Shilu》): “Tea from Sizhou is the best.” During the Ming Dynasty, Yongyi Township's Tuolong Village in Yingjiang County was under the jurisdiction of the Langxi Barbarian Chief's Office, which belonged to Sizhou. The Tuolong Tea produced by Tuolong Village in Yongyi Township, nestled deep in Mount Fanjing, can be traced back to the 11th century. In 1411 (the ninth year of the Yongle period of the Ming Dynasty), it was offered as tribute to the imperial court and bestowed the title of tribute tea. In the early 21st century, there were still over thirty old tea trees planted in the 15th century in Tuolong Village, Yongyi Township, including the largest one, which experts have identified as China's largest and best-growing tea tree, earning it the title of “China's Tea Tree King.”
