The Qinglong Manchu apricot kernel porridge uses apricot kernels, which are divided into bitter and sweet varieties. Bitter apricot kernels are used for medicinal purposes; while sweet apricot kernels, though also used in medicine, are primarily consumed as food. According to traditional Chinese medicine, sweet apricot kernels have the effects of moistening the lungs, eliminating dryness, stopping coughs, and lubricating the intestines. The apricot kernel porridge can prevent dry cough without phlegm, coughing and wheezing, and constipation due to intestinal dryness caused by cold and dry weather. Its nutrients are easily digested and absorbed by the human body, making it particularly suitable for elderly people to consume during winter.
The sweet apricot kernels contain 11% carbohydrates, as well as calcium, phosphorus, iron, carotene, ascorbic acid, and amygdalin, among other nutrients. They are especially rich in calcium, with a content that is twice that of milk. Additionally, they have the highest content of the trace element selenium among various types of nuts, which, when combined with vitamin E in the apricot kernels, can better eliminate free radicals in the human body, playing a role in disease prevention and delaying aging.
To prepare the porridge, use 25 grams of sweet apricot kernels (peeled and pointed ends removed), 50-100 grams of glutinous rice, and an appropriate amount of rock sugar, adding water as needed. First, bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce the heat and slowly simmer until the porridge is cooked. Consuming apricot kernel porridge can also replenish body fluids and provide nourishment and strengthening benefits.
