Dukeang noodles are a historic delicacy of Zhuozhou, named after the ancient region of “Dukeang” which encompasses Zhuozhou.
The shape of Dukeang noodles is similar to “cat ear noodles,” and they are a historic delicacy of Zhuozhou.
Xihegezhuang Village in Zhuozhou is where one of the famous Eight Views of Zhuozhou, “Autumn Harvest in Dukeang,” is located, and the tradition of eating Dukeang noodles still exists there today.
According to legend, when Jing Ke attempted to assassinate the King of Qin, he presented the “Dukeang map” to the king with a dagger hidden within. Before Jing Ke's attempt to assassinate the King of Qin, he ate Dukeang noodles and offered incense in Dukeang (present-day Zhuozhou) before heading to Yixian. This led to the famous line, “The wind blows cold over the Yi River, as the brave man departs never to return.”
A popular saying goes, “Jing Ke ate Dukeang noodles, took the map and sword, offered incense, then went to Yixian.”
