Basic Introduction to Turquoise Chalcedony
Turquoise chalcedony belongs to the agate series, with a hardness of 8 on the Mohs scale. It appears blue due to the presence of copper, and the amount of copper determines the depth of the color. Typically, turquoise chalcedony and blue agate are light blue or slightly white, giving a very soft impression.
Product Features
1. Chalcedony is associated with the moon and has a close relationship with water, so it is said to prevent drowning and accidents, as well as protect against witchcraft.
2. Ancient Romans believed that wearing chalcedony could ward off evil and ensure safety, protecting against negative energies. For frequent travelers, it makes for an excellent talisman.
3. According to foreign literature, chalcedony can reduce eye problems and help with issues related to the gallbladder, liver, bladder, bones, and the circulatory system.
4. It is also said to alleviate pain and aid in breastfeeding for pregnant women. Exposing it to UV light or indigo blue light for about 30 minutes can significantly enhance its energy.
5. Blue chalcedony corresponds to the throat chakra, enhancing self-expression and communication skills. To some extent, it can change introverted personalities, making one more outgoing and better at expressing oneself.
Determining Authenticity
1. Natural turquoise chalcedony, made from different raw stones, will have varying colors in each piece. Therefore, the finished products naturally display different shades, whether lighter or darker, brighter or duller. No two pieces are exactly the same, which is the most direct method to judge if they are pure and natural turquoise chalcedony;
2. Holding turquoise chalcedony in your hand or shining a flashlight through it may reveal natural cotton-like fibers or crystals inside. Some may show yellow or white thread-like cotton, with white referred to as “white cotton” and yellow as “water lines.” Others may feature yellow or red mineral specks, similar to the “fei spots” found in jade. A few may even have snowflake-like cotton spots like those in high-quality jade material, but these particles are extremely small. These characteristics are very similar to those of jade, and heated specimens would not exhibit such features;
3. The highest-grade turquoise chalcedony displays a glassy luster and transparent purity, but such materials are very expensive and rare. Bright sky-blue stones with clear interiors are priced the same as those with slightly darker hues tinged with grayish purple, but better fluorescence and transparency. Even though some may be slightly darker, if their luminescence is good, they become increasingly transparent and their fluorescence grows stronger over time.
